Alaa
Alaa Alkurdi is a Vienna and Gothenburg based artist and filmmaker. He graduated with honor at the Academy of fine art Vienna (Ashley Scheirl) and majored in film. As the head of the stream at the Jazzclub Porgy & Bess, he works with jazz musicians and artists on a daily basis to edit and stream live concerts within an artistic concept. Since 2017 he has been collaborating with musicians to produce, edit and create films/ videos. In 2019 he hosted workshops at the Academy of fine art as the main operator to digitize films (8, super 8, 9.5 and 16mm) in cooperation with the film museum Vienna and the TU. He has been working closely with the artist Friedemann Derschmidt since the past ten years on art projects and artistic researches dealing with family narratives in connection with the question of representation, which relates closely to his artistic practices, in focus his short movie “Reverse privilege”, which has been exhibited and selected as the cover work for the one year exhibition “Spuren und Masken der Flucht” at the Landesgalerie Niederösterreich in Krems as well has been exhibited at the Austrian Cultural Forum London for the exhibition “ Language strategies”.It also has been published at “Non Binary Universities: Vademekum zu geschlechtgergercht(er)en Hochschulen”, Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien.
